MCMA 2026/27 Committee Charge, Issues, and Membership
MCMA has a lot of great members who work hard on our committees. That's where much of the real work gets done! If you have a passion for a particular issue and would like to join a committee, please contact it's chair.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
The Education and Outreach Committee is charged with advancing the educational and outreach goals of the MCMA Strategic Plan (2025–2028). The Committee supports the MCMA’s efforts to advance the professional development of MCMA members, promote the profession and its role in local government, drive member participation and networking, create opportunities of the future of the profession and provide member support.
In alignment with the Strategic Plan, the Committee develops and implements initiatives that support talent development, academic collaboration, and public awareness. The Committee evaluates and recommends strategies that ensure MCMA’s education and outreach activities remain responsive, forward looking, and effective in preparing the next generation of local government professionals.
The Education and Outreach Committee is responsible for engaging with public administration/political science programs across the state, promoting membership in MCMA , administration of the MCMA Internship program, and administering the MCMA Conference Scholarship program.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
Promotes ethical conduct and investigates alleged violations of the Code of Ethics.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Creates opportunities in the area of professional development and training
RECOGNITION AND MEMBERSHIP
Reviews applications for membership where there is a question of eligibility, using criteria set forth by ICMA and the MCMA Constitution. Committee is also responsible for selecting the annual winner of the Dr. Robert A. Barrett Management Achievement Award. Committee has also taken responsibility for overseeing the managers in transition program.
WOMEN IN THE PROFESSION
This committee develops and delivers programs to support entry and advancement of women in the profession of local government management and addressing life-work balance issues for all professionals.
